If getting fit is a priority for you, you’re willing to make changes to your lifestyle, budget and agenda to be able to fit it in.  But, between workout clothes, shoes, gear and a gym membership, getting fit can get pricey!

Having workout clothes you like and good quality gear is important to your fitness goals.  Liking the way you look in your workout clothes will help make you feel motivated to get active.  Good workout clothes are also important for comfort, since they’re made of technical sweat-wicking material that is made to prevent chafing and move with you.  High quality running or tennis shoes are essential to protect your feet and the joints in your legs.

Buying good quality home workout equipment is also key.  No one wants to buy something that will break after just a few months of use!

Here’s the good news…it is possible to get fit on a budget! Here are a few insider tips to getting fit without draining your bank account!

Workout Shoes on a Shoestring Budget

discount gym shoesAthletic shoes often represent the most expensive investment of any piece of exercise equipment.  Brand name running or cross training shoes can cost from $100 – $200 per pair in a typical retail store.  Thankfully, there are a few places you can find brand name tennies at discount prices.

Many of the best deals can be found online, but sometimes deals can be found in-store on the clearance racks of stores like Sports Authority or Dick’s Sporting Goods.  Sometimes discount retailers like Ross, TJ Maxx or Marshalls have a good selection of name brand shoes at lower prices.

For sweet online deals on high-quality brand name shoes (sometimes for less than $50), try 6pm.com, ShoeZoo.com and Joe’s New Balance Outlet.

Cute Clearance Priced Workout Clothes

clearance workout clothesDo yourself a favor and don’t work out in cotton sweats and a T-shirt.  You’ll feel SO much better with some decent clothes that were designed to be sweated in!  Only trouble is, they are often VERY expensive.

In some stores, a single outfit of pants or crops and a tank top can run upwards of $150!  If you work out 5 days per week (and want to do laundry only once), you’re looking at a heavy investment.

However, there are a couple of places that you can get SUPER CUTE, technical workout clothes at a real savings!

For incredibly low prices on cute workout clothes in-store or online, try Old Navy.   You can find tanks for around $15, and a pair of pants or capris for less than $25.  Old Navy also has cute workout gear in plus sizes!

For online finds, Ellie.com has two options.  You can either shop tanks at around $35 and crops for around $45, OR you can join their FitFashionista club to get any 2 items for $49.95 once per month.  Ellie’s clothes are designed to look like high-end stuff while costing you only a fraction of the price.

Finally, sign up to PlanetGear.com.  Each day they offer just a couple of super sweet deals (think 70% off) on expensive brand name activewear and gear.  Over time, you may be able to amass a collection!

 Inexpensive Gym Memberships

inexpensive gym membershipGym memberships are generally really expensive, costing $40 – $60 per month or more.  There are a few exceptions.  If there’s a Planet Fitness near you, they offer really cheap $10/month no-frills gym memberships. There are no classes, juice bar, day care or trainers…just cardio machines and weights.  If you know your way around a gym, this may not be a bad option for you.

In addition, talk with your local YMCA.  Many of them have special income-based membership fees so that folks on a tight budget can still join.

If those don’t seem like good options, consider our next point…Home Workouts.

Home Exercise Equipment for a Steal!

inexpensive exercise equipmentHaving some basic, good quality equipment at home can help ensure you get your workouts in!  If the gym is expensive or you’re short on time, working out at home can be a great compromise.  By being thrifty about where you shop for exercise equipment, you can save big bucks!  See this article for the 5 most important pieces of home exercise equipment.

Before you head to your local sporting goods store, check out thrift stores, Goodwill, Craigslist, garage sales and eBay for higher ticket item pieces of equipment such as adjustable weight sets and aerobic steps.

For weight gloves, exercise balls and resistance band sets, compare prices on Amazon.com and take advantage of free shipping!

Home Workout Programs Save Time, Money and Gas

home workout programThe expense of a gym membership can really add up over time.  And doing gym workouts is time consuming, too, if you factor in the time spent driving to and from the gym, dealing with the locker room and waiting for equipment.

You can save yourself time, money and the expense of gas by opting to work out at home.  While your initial investment might be a bit greater – to buy your equipment and your home workout program – all of those things can be used for the long term.  There are no ongoing expenses.

The Athlean-XX for Women program (which can be done at home OR at the gym) costs $125, but it will pay for itself quickly.  You’ll get great results in just 30 minutes per day, and you can use the program for life by using advanced modifications and increasing weight!

You’ll be amazed at what you can do for your body in just 30 minutes per day at home.  30 minutes might sound short, but our workouts are challenging strength circuits.  You’ll get your strength training and your heart-pumping cardio in one fell swoop!  Join us on Team Athlean and check out our Athlean-XX for Women SuXXess Stories to see what others have been able to do with minimal equipment and 30 minutes per day.  Will you be neXXT?
